The forming process of titanium plate is similar to that of other materials. When necessary, coating and lubricant shall be applied to some parts of the die on the surface of rough materials and preforms to reduce friction between parts and tools, reduce scratches, improve product quality and extend tool life. Especially in hot forming, the coating can not only alleviate the serious friction between parts and molds under high temperature, but also protect the surface of parts and avoid and reduce oxidation.
To sum up, the purpose of coating for titanium sheet stamping is:
1. Improve the surface quality of parts;
2. Protect titanium parts from oxidation;
3. Reduce the pressure required for forming;
4. Extend the service life of the die;
5. Controls the flow of materials during deformation.
The coating shall generally have the following properties:
1. Good corrosion resistance, no harmful ingredients, no pollution to materials;
2. It has certain cohesiveness and is easy to be coated;
3. It has sufficient strength, and the coating is not easy to be damaged during use;
4. Good lubrication performance;
5. Easy to remove;
6. It is harmless to the health of operators;
7. Low cost.
Therefore, the coatings for forming used by titanium alloy sheet manufacturers can be divided into two categories according to different conditions of use, namely, coatings for forming at room temperature (cold forming) and coatings for forming at high temperature.
